Earthing – What Is It and How Can It Help Us?

This concept is as old as time. As we have come to understand, everything is “energy” which comprises of atoms, molecules, neutrons, protons, electrons and so on. Interestingly, in general we associate something “positive” as being beneficial. In the case of energy, too many “positive” ions can be detrimental. When free radicals create missing electrons, there can be adverse effects impacting many of the body’s processes, please read on as to how this simple practice can improve your wellbeing.

Ancient civilisations mostly walked around with bare feet or thin sandals, so there was continual connection with the earth. Today many people wear rubber soles or spend a good percentage of times indoors without having this natural infusion of electrons.

The soles of our feet are the quickest and most effective way for our body to detox and absorb. Due to their composition, sand, dirt and grass are able to provide us with a free supply of electrons. In this way the body takes in free ions from earth’s surface that act as antioxidants in the body system. “The research suggests that this disconnect may be a major contributor to physiological dysfunction and unwellness.” (www.ncbi.nlm.nih/gov)

By simply sitting or standing barefoot on the earth for at least ten minutes a day will help replenish this valuable “invisible” healing. Maybe without even realising, have you ever noticed how it feels when we are in nature or just sitting, lying or standing on the ground … a kind of inner vibration? The body through its innate wisdom uses this “electronic energy” throughout its many and varied systems.

“Reconnection with the Earth’s electrons has been found to promote intriguing physiological changes and subjective reports of well-being. Earthing (or grounding) refers to the discovery of benefits – including better sleep and reduced pain – from walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems that transfer the Earth’s electrons from the ground into the body.” (www.ncbi.nlm.nih/gov)

Some other benefits are –

Quality/depth of sleep, normalise the day-night cortisol rhythm, reduce pain, reduce stress, shift the autonomic nervous system from sympathetic toward parasympathetic activation, increase heart rate variability, speed wound healing and reduce blood viscosity.

Of-course of this sounds so easy to do … to just make ten minutes a day to be “connected, for some people they may not necessarily live in a house with grass, close to the ocean or park, etc where this daily intake is so accessible. There is always a solution, in this case there are a whole range of products which can be purchased which can compensate for this. Maybe you have heard of grounding sheets or mats, quite different to those used when camping outdoors? I have come to understand there are grounding shoes, strips which can be attached to shoes, pillowcases, mats, pads which people can either sit or place their feet on. Amazing!

In the past month or so, when looking to purchase some of the above-mentioned products for my family and self, I discovered an excellent company, named “Urban Hippee.” From my first call and in speaking with Eli and throughout the whole purchase was outstanding – so professional and communicative. Attention to detail is very important to me – these products (and the stunning packaging) reassured me I had made a perfect choice. Nothing in this for me as such … just sharing an experience to share. www.urbanhippee.com.au

In purchasing a “grey pillowcase” (amongst other products) and after the first night of my daughter using it the following was mentioned, “I had the best sleep ever. I would recommend this to anyone. So good for mental health.” I could actually see the difference in her eyes (which I imagine may be apart of the increase in circulation, etc). What an investment.

Either way whether it is good reason to be out in nature, literally “being grounded” or one of the many products available from many sources, now is a perfect time to improve your health.

Namaste

Chris
